Factor

The Clario Factor node gives one the ability to run factor analysis on a set of attributes. Factor analysis is a method of finding the unique dimensions in a set of attributes.

Configuration

Factor has two configuration tabs: Configure and Write File.

Configure Tab

Available Attributes

The Available Attributes box displays all of the numeric attributes from the input data stream available for factor analysis.

Selected Attributes

Drag and drop the desired attributes from Available Attributes to Selected Attributes. Factor analysis will be run on the attributes placed in the Selected Attributes box. At least one attribute must be placed into the Selected Attributes box.

Settings

Use the settings box to select the Number of Factors Method, Proportion of Variance Percentage, and Rotation Method.

Select the Number of Factors Method to Automatic or Manual.

If Automatic is selected, specify:

  • Proportion of Variance %: the percent of variance in the dataset to explain with the set of factors. Valid range is from 0 to 100 with one digit of decimal precision. Note that higher % of variance will result in more factors. Default is set to 30%.

If Manual is selected, specify:

  • Number of Factors: the number of factors to create to represent the dataset. Valid range is greater than or equal to 1, and less than or equal to the number of attributes in Candidate Attributes in the Select Attributes box.

Choose the desired Rotation Method for the factor analysis, choices being None, Varimax, and Equamax.

Write File Tab

The Write File tab allows the Factor node to output the newly created dataset to a delimited file. The new dataset contains all the original attributes plus the factors from the factor analysis.

Results

The Factor Analysis results set contains four tabs: Variance Analysis, Scree Plot, Matrices, and Transform Code.

Variance Analysis Tab

The Variance Analysis tab contains a table of factors, with Initial Eigenvalues, Extraction Sums of Squared Loadings, and Rotation Sums of Squared Loadings. Each of these columns is broken down into Total, % of Variance, and Cumulative %.

Scree Plot Tab

The Scree Plot tab contains line graphs, comparing the factors to their eigenvalues, and the factors to the cumulative variance.

Matrices Tab

The are four results tables in the Matrices Tab. If the Rotation Method chosen is None, only the first and last table below would be available.

Note

It is helpful to use the rotated factor matrix table to understand the major factor components.

Transform Code Tab

The Transform Code tab contains the ClarioScript used to compute factors using the coefficients from Factor Score Coefficient Matrix. Note that only up to five factors are shown in the preview window. To get the code for all of the factors, use the Export button on the Toolbar.
